tonight’s workout was at the 73rd street track. for two years, I ran past this track and didn’t even know it existed…and so I geared up for what I assumed would be the worst workout ever…and this is what I got through.
4 laps at effort level 4 » time each lap » recover 1 lap at effort level 1
6 laps at effort level 4 » time every 2 laps » recover 2 laps
8 laps at effort level 3 » time every 4 laps » recover 2 laps
4 laps at effort level 4 » time each lap
I didn’t want to like this workout. Running in circles for 40 minutes is not my idea of fun…and running those circles at effort levels 3 & 4? Hah, no thanks.
But my timed laps were so close to being perfectly even splits. I kept my effort steady, even when all I wanted to do was give up. My recovery laps got significantly slower at the end, but I pushed through the cycle as many times as I could.
and in the end, I was proud of myself. I did really well on my splits, and I felt strong(ish) when I finished. I’d even consider doing this workout again…but I’m sure my coach has plenty of other ways to torture us instead.
